Wow. Hard to believe the last time I posted on this thing was when Skippy diied. Yowzoozas that seems like along time ago.
We didn't stay dogless for very long. I felt that I didn't want to start with a puppy - feeling that there were too many dogs that needed rescuing. And Roberta agreed to look into it.
We found and hooked up with Wisconson Shelty Rescue run aby an obsessed and very loving woman (Lisa) on the east shore of Lake Winnebago. After our application was accepted (and passing a background check) we were contacted and invited up to meet Marley a young male that had been left outside practically the entire previous winter and then left behind when its young irresponsible owner moved. I fell hard for Marley who has one bluish eye (typical of Merles but he's not a Merle, he's more of a typical Tri Color Sable). He was pretty shy but seemed in need of our love. It was agreed that Lisa would bring him to our house with her to make sure our living situation met their standards-and the rest is now 3 years of history.
Marley will be 4 years old in July and has come a long way from the dog who had no idea of what come, stay, sit, good boy, or much of anything meant. He his still somewaht shy around strangers and he gets nervous when we have a houseful of company, but he is such a sweet little guy, and in addition to learning all the basic commands he has even earned an AKC Good Citizen certificate. A very high energy dog who loves his large fenced back yard but also wants to go explore the neighborhood every day as well.
Many thanks to Wisconsin Shelty Rescue for all they do, and all the others who do such good work with animals.
